
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has reiterated the Army’s commitment to defending all communities without bias while fostering peace and development.
General Uwa made the assurance over the weekend when he received a high-powered delegation from the Wurkum Chiefdom at the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, Taraba State. The delegation visited to commend the Army for its role in restoring stability in Karim Lamido Local Government Council.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, embrace dialogue in resolving disputes, and support ongoing peacebuilding initiatives. The Commander emphasized that recent security successes in Karim Lamido and other parts of Taraba were achieved through collaboration among security agencies, the state government, traditional rulers, and community members.
The delegation, led by Mr. Iliya Idris, representative of the Chief of Wurkum, expressed appreciation for the Brigade’s leadership, officers, and troops. Idris praised the Army’s intervention in the communal crisis between the Shomo and Wurkum tribes, calling it timely, professional, and crucial in preventing tensions, particularly in Usmanu Village, from escalating into widespread violence.
He highlighted that impartial troop deployment, constant monitoring, and strict enforcement of law and order were key to restoring calm and renewing public confidence in government institutions. The presence of security personnel, he added, has allowed displaced residents to return home and resume their livelihoods without fear.
Idris further assured the Commander that the Wurkum people remain committed to sustained peace, unity, and lawful conduct in the region. The delegation also offered condolences to the Nigerian Army over the death of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing his passing as a significant loss to the nation.
