Bhojpuri superstar Khesari Lal Yadav has indicated that his wife might enter the political arena for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, revealing that he has been trying to persuade her for the past several days. Speaking to the media in Patna on Wednesday, Yadav affirmed his support for RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, but added that he would personally campaign for the party only if his wife decides not to contest the polls.
Khesari Lal Yadav’s Political Move
“I want my wife to contest the election. I have been trying to convince her for the last four days. If she agrees, we will file the nomination; otherwise, I will only campaign and try to make Bhaiya (Tejashwi Yadav) win,” Khesari told ANI.
Reports suggest that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which is contesting the elections in coalition with the Congressand Left parties, is considering giving the ticket to Khesari’s wife, Chanda Yadav, potentially from the Manjhi or Chhapra assembly constituency.
Khesari Lal Yadav, a prominent figure in the Bhojpuri film and music industry, has been a known supporter of the RJD for years. His endorsement and possible direct participation via his wife could add star power to the party’s campaign in key constituencies.
Bihar Elections Timeline
The Bihar Assembly elections, which will decide all 243 seats, are scheduled in two phases: November 6 and November 11, with results expected on November 14. Star involvement, both in campaigning and candidacy, has become a notable feature of the state’s elections, with actors and singers drawing significant public attention.
Other Music Industry Figures in Politics
In related developments, folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna on Tuesday, in the presence of state BJP President Dilip Jaiswal. Thakur is likely to contest from Alinagar in Darbhanga.
Another singer, Pawan Singh, was reportedly in the running for a BJP ticket but withdrew following marital disputes with his wife, Jyoti Singh, which garnered public attention.
BJP Leadership’s Confidence
During Thakur’s induction event, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal expressed confidence in the NDA’s victory, claiming that voters are determined to give the alliance a “thumping majority.” He also criticized the opposition Mahagathbandhan, alleging that it is “disheartened and depressed” and predicting that several of its MLAs would soon defect to the BJP.
“Opposition is disheartened and depressed. They are attempting to say something or the other before the media. Voters have made up their minds to form NDA Govt with a thumping majority. More than a dozen MLAs from RJD-Congress will join the BJP. Aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya… Opposition is collapsing everywhere; it has a ‘flat tyre’,” Jaiswal stated during the press conference.
Political Implications
Khesari Lal Yadav’s potential entry through his wife could energize the RJD campaign, particularly in constituencies with significant Bhojpuri-speaking populations. Star candidates and celebrity endorsements have historically influenced voter sentiment in Bihar, and Chanda Yadav’s candidacy may bring additional visibility and traction to the party.
Simultaneously, the BJP is consolidating its strategy by welcoming popular figures like Maithili Thakur, aiming to leverage celebrity appeal for electoral advantage. The upcoming November elections are shaping up to be highly competitive, with both alliances attempting to capitalize on public sentiment and star power to influence results.
