The Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) Trustees have announced that the 34th edition of the prestigious awards will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.
The ceremony will recognise excellence across key journalism categories, including reporting, commentary, and design, while also conferring honorary fellowships on three veteran media professionals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on Nigerian journalism.
The honourees are:
- Najeem Jimoh, former editor of The Punch
- Dare Babarinsa, co-founder and former executive editor of TELL Magazine
- Owei Lakemfa, columnist, labour advocate, and former Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity
Since its inception in 1992, DAME has celebrated over 600 media professionals and organisations, highlighting journalism that informs, educates, challenges, and inspires the public. Each edition reinforces the importance of credible, responsible storytelling in nation-building and the preservation of democratic values.
The 2025 edition will bring together journalists, editors, broadcasters, industry leaders, policymakers, development partners, and media supporters, honouring excellence across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. Beyond the awards, the event highlights the dedication, courage, and creativity journalists bring to their work under demanding circumstances.
DAME extends gratitude to partners including UNICEF, the Lagos State government, NLNG, the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, and the Nigerian Guild of Editors, whose support continues to strengthen the mission of the awards.
As preparations advance, DAME remains committed to celebrating the stories and storytellers shaping Nigeria while promoting ethical reporting and public accountability.
