Delta Government to Reconstruct ECN Road to Improve Urban Mobility — Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has announced plans to reconstruct the ECN Road, which links Udu and Ughelli South Local Government Areas, following persistent complaints about its deteriorating condition and the daily challenges faced by residents, commuters, and businesses.

Speaking on Friday at Orhuwhorun in Udu LGA during the 50th and 19th memorial celebration of late Chief and Madam Palama Akporhierayen, Oborevwori assured that the project would be executed to standard and delivered within a defined timeline. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes quality infrastructure to enhance security, commerce, and overall quality of life.

“There is no local government where I don’t have leaders. You cannot say because you are a governor that you are all in all. No. You must be loyal to your people because we are only serving them,” he said, highlighting the values of servant leadership, humility, accountability, and loyalty to constituents.

The ECN Road is a key artery serving multiple communities, including Aladja, Ovwian, Iwhrekan, Otu-Jeremi, Ubogo, Egini, and Owhrode, and provides access to the Ujewu Terminal of the Warri–Itakpe rail line. It also connects major industrial hubs like Delta Steel Company and Utorogu Gas Plant, West Africa’s largest gas facility.

Last October, reports highlighted the road’s severe deterioration, with potholes and flooding causing vehicle damage, disrupting businesses, and driving up transport fares in areas such as Ovwian Grammar School, Ujewu, Otu-Jeremi, Ekakpamre, and Iwhrekan.

Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, confirmed that the government is aware of the situation, noting:

“Weeping may tarry over the night… But joy comes in the morning. His Excellency is not unaware of the present state of the road and is only waiting for the rains to abate.”

The reconstruction of ECN Road is expected to boost urban mobility, facilitate commerce, and improve daily life for thousands of residents and commuters in Delta State.
