Tiwa Savage Adopts “Not-So-Privileged” Parenting Style for Son Jamil

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about her intentional approach to single parenting, emphasizing the importance of instilling ambition, humility, and hard work in her 10-year-old son, Jamil.

In an Instagram story, Savage referenced businesswoman Ibukun Awosika, who warned that spoiling children can stifle their passion and drive. Echoing this, the singer explained that she deliberately exposes Jamil to experiences that build resilience and character.

For instance, while private flights are an option, Jamil is placed in economy class on commercial flights to teach him humility. Savage also ties privileges to effort, requiring him to earn items like Roblox through chores or good academic performance. Screen time, snacks, and sweets are limited, while Bible study every night is prioritized.

She wrote:

“Pastor Awosika said, ‘Do not kill your children’s dream by using your success to kill their ambition.’ If children always have everything and live a luxurious life, they might grow up without passion or drive. A dream should be something bigger than your reality, something you wish for that you don’t already have.”

Tiwa added that these practices reflect real love, helping Jamil build a strong foundation for the future while remaining a kind and grounded child.
