Adebayo Anthony, popularly known as Tony Sticks, is a performing percussionist making waves in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. Through passion, creativity, and discipline, he continues to carve a unique niche for himself with his electrifying performances and mastery of the drums.
Speaking about his journey and inspiration, Tony Sticks revealed that his love for drumming began in the Celestial Church band, where he discovered a deep, spiritual connection to rhythm.
“My inspiration came from within — from a spiritual connection I felt through rhythm as a Celestial band member. The sound of the drums always felt like a heartbeat to me, something divine that could move people emotionally and spiritually. That inner fire inspired me to turn my passion into a career,” he said.
He explained that his skills developed through consistent practice, observation, and live performances.
“I learned by watching experienced drummers and playing at live events. Those experiences helped me understand timing, coordination, and stage presence,” he added.
Challenges and Determination
Reflecting on his early struggles, the percussionist recalled facing limited access to proper instruments and recognition.
“When I started, I had to make do with improvised setups. Many people didn’t take drumming seriously as a career, but with persistence and faith, I proved my dedication and built my craft,” he said.
Beyond Talent: What Makes a Star
According to Tony Sticks, talent alone is not enough to thrive in the entertainment industry.
“A good showbiz personality must have confidence, originality, humility, and respect for others. Consistency, charisma, and teamwork are also vital for a lasting career,” he emphasized.
He also debunked common misconceptions about drumming.
“People think drummers just make noise or that it’s easy to play, but drumming requires discipline, timing, creativity, and physical endurance. It’s a skill that combines both emotion and technique.”
Dreams and Future Goals
Looking ahead, Tony Sticks is determined to grow his brand as a respected percussionist and a global ambassador for African rhythms.
“I want to collaborate with top artists, take African percussion to international stages, and mentor young drummers. I also hope to create platforms where upcoming talents can express themselves,” he said.
Through his craft, Tony Sticks continues to inspire a new generation of musicians — proving that discipline, creativity, and passion remain the heartbeat of success in music.
