The Enugu State Magistrate Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of Emmanuel Nwangwu, the prime suspect in the killing of 19-year-old Loveth Uloma in Nsukka Local Government Area.
Nwangwu, arraigned on a single count of murder by the Enugu State Police Command, has been remanded to the Enugu Maximum Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.
Background of the Case
The arraignment follows public outrage over the circumstances surrounding Uloma’s death. Reports indicate that she was attacked inside a pharmacy, shortly after allegedly reporting prior threats from the suspect to the police.
According to the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, Nwangwu was arrested on December 1, 2025, following an investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID).
“The suspect was arrested on December 1, 2025, in Nsukka, following an incident in which he violently assaulted the deceased, resulting in injuries that tragically led to her death,” Ndukwe said.
Police and Court Actions
The state police commissioner, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, immediately directed the CID to conduct a thorough investigation, ensuring that the case was promptly charged to court.
Ndukwe added that the court also directed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for review and legal advice.
“The investigation has been concluded, and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly,” Ndukwe said.
Commissioner Giwa extended condolences to Uloma’s family, assuring them that justice is in progress.
“We condole with the family and friends of the deceased and urge them to take comfort in the fact that justice is already in motion,” he said.
