Glen Powell Teases “Authentic Reactions” to Non-Stop Stunts in The Running Man

Glen Powell is giving fans a front-row look at the high-octane stunts in his upcoming action thriller, The Running Man, set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE during the New York Comic Con panel at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 10, Powell, 36, shared behind-the-scenes details about filming the remake of the 1987 classic.

“There were a few explosions that hit me in the face,” Powell revealed. “And a fire extinguisher that exploded before it was supposed to definitely took me by surprise.”

Powell’s “Authentic Reactions”

Audiences can expect real, unscripted reactions from Powell during some of the film’s most daring stunts. He described a particular scene where he falls down the side of a building, noting a cable release that happened slightly earlier than expected:

“If you fall even just a couple [of] feet down the side of a building when you’re not expecting it, it’s a little nerve-racking,” he said with a laugh.

Powell added that he enjoys the element of surprise on set, saying:

“I always try to keep myself surprised because that’s all the good stuff. You never want to be too surefooted on a set.”

Favorite Stunts and Action Scenes

From jumping off an exploding bridge to intense hand-to-hand combat, Powell highlighted several sequences that left a lasting impression. Fans can also look forward to a “pretty badass” action scene in the third act featuring Powell and Lee Pace, who plays the hunter, Evan McCone.

“There’s a lot of action, it’s non-stop,” Powell shared.

About The Running Man

The film, directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall, is a dystopian thriller adapted from Stephen King’s 1982 novel. Powell stars as Ben Richards, taking over the role originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 version.

The story follows Richards as he navigates a bloodthirsty game show, pursued by professional “hunters.” He must survive deadly challenges to win the prize money to help his sick daughter, creating a tense, high-stakes scenario packed with explosions, chases, and fight sequences.

The film also stars Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Jayme Lawson, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Michael Cera, and the 1987 classic’s homage star, Lee Pace.
