Nigerians Warn FG Lies, Deceit, Corruption Cannot Improve Welfare

Some Nigerians have appealed to the Federal Government to “retrace its locus immediately,” warning that lies, deceit, and corruption cannot enhance citizens’ welfare. The concerns were shared during a Vanguard survey of public opinion on current issues facing the country.

Nze Peter Chika Odoemena expressed deep frustration over insecurity, highlighting recent attacks that claimed at least 40 lives in a Nigerian market. “Why should anyone be a refugee in their own country? Why must schools close due to the activities of non-state actors? Lies, deceit, corruption, no matter how small, cannot improve citizens’ welfare,” he said.

Jonathan Chiedo Ikegwuruka criticized the government for prioritizing politicking over governance. He questioned claims of improved welfare, pointing to food insecurity, unsafe rural roads, and the collapse of public utilities. “Virtually every household now relies on boreholes for water because potable water is no longer a government priority. We are drinking without knowing the health implications,” he said.

Mrs. Stella Ogechi Omenka echoed similar concerns, stressing the continued prevalence of corruption and the lack of effective programs for youth, widows, and vulnerable groups. “All previous governments made promises and told stories, yet we are still suffering. Deception and corruption remain rampant, and meaningful progress is elusive,” she said.

The respondents’ views underscore growing public frustration with the government’s handling of security, infrastructure, and social welfare, calling for urgent reforms to prioritize citizens’ well-being.
