NiMet Forecasts Sunshine, Clouds, and Dust Haze for the Week

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast predicting sunshine, cloudiness, and dust haze across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

According to the outlook released on Sunday in Abuja:

  • Northern Region: Sunny skies are expected throughout the period. Dust haze is predicted over Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Yobe on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Central Region: The region will generally experience sunny weather with intermittent cloud cover. By Wednesday, hazy conditions are expected alongside the sunshine.
  • Southern Region: Morning hours will feature a mostly cloudy atmosphere with occasional sunshine. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in parts of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Ekiti, Edo, and Oyo, especially in the afternoons and evenings. Moderate rainfall may also occur in some areas later in the week.

NiMet has issued safety advice for the public, urging motorists to drive carefully during rains and for residents in northern areas to take precautions against dust particles. People with asthma or respiratory conditions are particularly advised to remain cautious.

Airline operators are encouraged to consult NiMet for airport-specific weather reports to support safe flight operations. Residents are also advised to stay updated through NiMet’s official website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
