PDP’s Delayed Expulsions Deepen Crisis, Threaten Electoral Prospects — Aborisade

UK-based human rights lawyer and PDP chieftain Chief Niyi Aborisade has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) delayed expulsion of key members has exacerbated internal crises and could jeopardize its performance in upcoming elections.

Speaking in a statement, Aborisade noted that decisive action should have been taken much earlier, rather than on the eve of elections, as the delay has created unnecessary uncertainty within the party.

“PDP acted late to expel those who should have been expelled long ago. This should have been settled a long time ago and not on the eve of the election,” he said.

Aborisade highlighted that unresolved court cases continue to cast doubts on the party’s stability and cohesion, warning that the PDP’s fate in the next election remains uncertain unless the matter is resolved amicably.

He also expressed concern over the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, describing it as a warning sign of the party’s vulnerabilities:

“A sitting governor has left us. He sees the danger ahead and does the wise thing. How many are yet to leave? Some are just barely clinging to the fabric that holds the party together.”

Aborisade called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to lead a swift reconciliation and healing process within the party, describing the task as “herculean.” He urged Makinde to leverage the challenges facing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rebuild and strengthen the PDP.

“There is little time to rectify the situation, and we must act fast. Hope is fast fading, and act fast we must,” he said.

According to Aborisade, urgent reconciliation remains the only viable way to prevent further defections and stabilize the party ahead of elections.
