
Utah Tech has suspended guard Chance Trujillo for one game following a viral incident in which he punched an opponent during a December 3 college basketball game.
Incident Details
The altercation occurred when Santa Clara Broncos forward Allen Graves dunked over Trujillo late in the game, putting the Broncos ahead 86-77 with 1:18 remaining. In response, Trujillo threw a punch to Graves’ head, which was caught on video and widely shared online.
Referees issued technical fouls to both Trujillo and Graves, as well as to Santa Clara’s Brenton Knapper. The Broncos went on to win the game 90-80.
Suspension Announcement
Utah Tech confirmed to PEOPLE that Trujillo, a redshirt sophomore, will serve a one-game suspension in accordance with NCAA rules, which mandate automatic ejection and suspension for players involved in fights.
“Chance Trujillo will serve that one-game suspension this Saturday night, Dec. 13, when Utah Tech hosts Justice University,” the school said.
Trujillo is set to return to the court on December 20 for Utah Tech’s matchup against Weber State.

This season, Trujillo is averaging 11.7 points and 2.4 assists per game for the Trailblazers. Fans reacted strongly to the incident, with many criticizing Trujillo for losing his composure.
“No matter what, you can’t throw a punch,” one fan wrote. “Join the boxing team if you wanna punch,” added another.
