The Warri South Legislative Assembly communicated its unanimous decision to the Chairman of Warri South, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, in a letter dated December 10, 2025. The resolution was reached during the plenary session held on December 9, 2025.
The letter, signed by the Clerk of the House, Comr. Sheriff Oborevwori Way in recognition of the Executive Governor’s outstanding contribution to infrastructural and socio-economic development in Warri South and Delta State at large.”
Recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s Contributions
The decision to rename Airport Road was a joint effort between Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas, which had already aligned in support of the renaming. The Chairman of Warri South, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, had earlier announced the approval during a session of the Warri South Council Exco on October 20, 2025, in the presence of Chief Anthony Ofoni, Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area.
“We are renaming this road to honor Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his invaluable contributions to Delta State, especially through his landmark projects and his impact on Warri South,” stated Chairman Weyinmi Isaac. He emphasized that the renaming is a way to immortalize the Governor’s legacy, noting that the renaming of the road signifies both the region’s gratitude and recognition of his leadership.
The Uvwie Local Government Chairman, Chief Anthony Ofoni, who also supported the initiative, expressed his gratitude to Weyinmi Isaac for his commitment. “I am very happy about this initiative, because without the effort of the Warri South Council, we couldn’t have achieved this,” Ofoni stated. “Governor Oborevwori will be very pleased to see this kind of unity between the two councils.”
Next Steps: Erecting Signboards
The renaming of Airport Road will be followed by the erection of relevant signboards in both Warri South and Uvwie areas. As agreed upon, the Uvwie end will have its own signboards, while the Warri South axis will follow suit.
“We will ensure the erection of the relevant signboards along the Warri South axis as soon as possible,” Weyinmi Isaac added, highlighting the collaborative nature of this project.
A Mark of Teamwork
The renaming of Airport Road is seen as an emblem of teamwork and cooperation between the leadership of Warri South and Uvwie local governments, as well as a recognition of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s vision and leadership.
With the renaming set to take place in the coming weeks, the people of Warri South and Uvwie look forward to seeing the Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way in honor of a leader who has worked tirelessly to improve the region’s infrastructure and development.
Conclusion
The decision to rename Airport Road to Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way highlights the collective effort and leadership that has spurred Delta State towards progress. This gesture is a lasting tribute to a leader whose contributions continue to resonate in the region, while reinforcing the unity of local governance in Warri South and Uvwie.
