The Yobe State Police Command has expressed serious concern over an increase in grave desecration incidents across the state.
The latest case took place in Potiskum, where the Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from residents reporting that unidentified individuals had broken into the Nahuta graveyard, exhumed a child’s grave, and stolen the corpse.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command described the trend as alarming and deeply troubling.
The statement recalled a similar incident earlier this month in Jakusko Local Government Area, where police investigations to apprehend the culprits are still ongoing.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemns these heinous and barbaric acts, describing them as nefarious and completely unacceptable,” the statement said.
CP Ado has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to increase surveillance, enhance patrols around cemeteries, and ensure the prompt arrest of those responsible.
The Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement by providing credible information that could help track down the perpetrators.
